OUTC: A what club?!

I am learning rather quickly that the lingo in NZ does not associate quite as closely with whatever we got going on in the United States.  I was recommended by a local down in Dunedin to join the Otago University Tramping Club once I get to the island...and I was a little taken aback.  Here, it would have been more aptly referred to as a 'Hiking Club' or a 'Backpacking Club'.  Lo and behold, I checked it out and OH MY GOODNESS.  My excitement level reached an all time high as I have never been more pertinent to do something in my entire life! Check out this link for more pictures and information.  It is funny because they are just gearing up for winter there while we are more than anxious to start summer.  Everyone is telling me how I will be missing out on summer, but I usually can only handle a month of humidity anyways...so it is a perfect setup to jet off to colder weather!  Plus, snow-capped mountains are infinitely more breathtaking! :)

These pictures were taken by students in the club and are also seen on the website.

This will be a perfect opportunity for me to meet an ample amount of sweet people--- and a way for me to reassure my mom that I am NOT hiking alone.  She read 127 Hours, and has most likely figured out that I  unfortunately do not have what it takes to survive in the wilderness by myself...which is more true than I want to believe.  I should watch more Man vs. Wild to prepare for the what-if's.  Bear Grylls seems to know what he's doing...
I will be stoked to see Mtns again! I have been missing them since AK.

Beyond that, I have just been reading my book on NZ (a gift from my aunt) and keeping up with the never ending paperwork, and thoroughly enjoying the last few weeks of school.  Such is life I guess!

Looking Ahead to July

As my departure day draws nearer, I have been an avid googler; searching for images of the place that I will call home for 5 months.  It is crazy to think that I will be over halfway around the world very shortly. There, I will be 17 hours ahead in a land with military time, penguins, and elephant seals.  Not to mention extreme outdoor adventures and more sheep than people!  I have already met some people who are venturing there as well, and have the same enthusiasm for travel and new experiences!

Although my photos will never compare to these professionally snapped images, I thought I would share some of the views I most likely will be setting my eyes upon!
